Top Ten Reasons to Love Donna Jean

10. Best girl ever to sing with the Dead
9. I want her hair
8. She brought in Keith
7. Almost as fun to rag on as Bob and Brent
6. Per capita, there are more moments of Toys R Us twinkle-keys in the Brent Era than Donna howls in the Donna era, so Donna wins in the important category of "Are You Kind?"
5. Row Jimmy
4. TMNS
3. 1977
2. Oh heck, lots of songs. When she's good, she's very very good.
1. When she's not good, she entertains the dog, scours the pans, lets in fresh air by breaking unnecessary windows, and destroys the arguments of pro-gun folks like Mando by providing an obvious and devastatingly effective non-violent alternative. Depending on the definition of non-violent.

Happy Birthday to Our Wonderful Donna Jean!

10 - Check
9 - Check. It is awesome.
7 - Nope, as I work through The 1984 Project, I've found it's much more fun to rag on Brent when he tinkles on his organ.
6 - Per capita perhaps. It would be interesting to put the worst DJ howl up against the worst Brent twinkle-keys/chimey thing. Upon further review, no it wouldn't. Donna wins in a landslide.
5 - Check. Also Cassidy. You may hear a bad recording of a Cassidy, but you'll never hear a recording of a bad Cassidy.

"Faring thee well now.
Let your life proceed by its own design.
Nothing to tell now.
Let the words be yours, I'm done with mine."

One of the best verses JPB ever wrote for the boys and girl.

4 - Check. Also see 5.
3 - For me, 1978. Some really well developed Cassidy's in '78.
2 - Check.
1 - Hey!!! I resemble that. Although the excruciatingly, drawn out yowling is arguably more violent than a nice efficient (and quick) pink mister head shot. And just so you know, please amend to read "pro 'responsible' gun"

you forgot #8? Makes me think you're just human, not super-human as you lead me to believe Mando :( itypedthisslowly

Just wanna thank PG for the post, and Tigers pix, and of
course ARs top 10. Smiles all around~ grate links.

I never got to see or hear Donna in the 'glory days'.
LUCKY DOGS
Got to see her for the first time a couple years ago. She
is beautiful in every way. I will never say anything
negative about the woman, ever.
True deadheads know when to turn it up
and turn it down, no prob. Whether its a Donna scream, or
Brents tinkling. (I tinkle on my organ sometimes too, tmi,
but its usually in a dark bathroom in the WEE hours)

I should look at the GD calendar I have at the front door
a little harder...anyway

Happy belated Donna! (I know she is reading this)

They are the ones opposite of fake deadheads?

can you send me your resume? I will have my people call your people next decade, on a Tuesday to see if you qualify.
But I gotta tell ya, its lookin good so far. You could make
ass. manager of the true deadheads at least.

Ok. Just exchange 'true deadheads' with the word "people".
EWwwwww. I don't like them: People that is . Yuck.. I like deadheads. And please don't read too much into this> SO deadheads are not people?? Just ride the fun non-logical
wave and have a grateful weekend

"ass" manager? oh no - here's come the dark hollow juvenile comments and we may even get a visit from direwolf.

Just messing with you. I must be a deadhead because the band is still chasing me - how else do you think I ended up at this desk within a 5 minute drive of laguna seca and within shouting distance of the monterey fairgrounds?

No I didn't forget. Even though Keith was who I saw, I actually prefer Tom C. If I could selectively apply keyboard skills, I'd have to give the nod to Brent over Keith if all he (Brent) did was B3 and real piano.

Pig was his own dynamic and is in a category all by himself.

So, in rank order: (Remember, Pig is in his own box)

Tom C
(B3 backing vocals Brent - Dr. Jekyll)
Keith
Bruce Hornsby
(Tinkly Brent - Mr. Hyde)
All up Round lead vocals Brent
Vince

(insert 11,283,969 empty place holders)

(Chimey Brent)

Ah, so that's been the problem with rankings so far! No one had realized there were Three Brents. How could we have been so blind?

I'm not sure where to put TC, but your astute observations will, in the future, make the rankings much easier. You may keep Tinkly Brent and Chimey Brent locked up for as long as you want.

And WAIT! I've just discovered the reason for Donna's shrieks! One of the Brents -- either Tinkly or Chimey -- GOT LOOSE in the early 70s. Look for yourself at Tigerbolt's Pic Number Four. The one with Mickey as Hamlet.

It's BRENT with the band! (And he's dangerous. He locked away Bob.) No wonder she screamed.

I agree. It may have been because JGB didn't play so thunderously loud, and she could hear herself better... I dunno. Someone described Donna's singing on JGB"s version of 'Stir It Up' as sounding like 'a big beautiful bird,' and I concur. Happy Birthday Donna, wherever you may be...
